College physics, an active learning guide

Ever so often I manage to get hold of a book that makes me think more deeply about how I teach. This week, this book was delivered and I wish I had found it years ago. It is designed for American college students and is full of short exercises that are suitable for A level, and a few for GCSE. I really like how questions are broken down into word descriptions, sketched, free body diagrams and then the application of Newton’s law.

It is making me really think about how I can scaffold problems, particularly at A level, so that students can practise steps effectively, but as part of the problem. I am really looking forward to trying this out.
